Membership in the Scott/Teays Lions Club is by invitation.  Club members volunteer their time to humanitarian causes in the Teays Valley - Scott Depot area and to causes throughout the world.  Scott/Teays Lions conduct service projects and help those in need, wherever the need exists.  Studies show, men and women join service organizations in order to satisfy one or more of the following needs:

 - The need to GIVE to others
 - The need to ASSOCIATE with others
 - And the need to FEEL BETTER about yourself and BE RECOGNIZED for it

Through membership, Lions not only help people in need but have opportunities to develop personal FRIENDSHIP and develop valuable LEADERSHIP skills.

Lions are dedicated to helping those less fortunate than themselves.  Lions pay dues (currently $50/yr) to defray the administrative costs of the club and the association.  No project income is used for administration.

We are the world's largest service organization with more than 1.4 million members in 180 countries.

In 1925, Helen Keller challenged all Lions around the world to become KNIGHTS FOR THE BLIND. The Scott/Teays Lions have accepted that challenge. Each year Scott/Teays Lions Club provides many pairs of GLASSES for the needy citizens of the Teays Valley - Scott Depot area.  Each year the Scott/Teays Lions provide EYE SURGERIES and HEARING AIDS for the needy citizens of Teays Valley and Scott Depot.  Through funding from the WV LIONS SIGHT CONSERVATION FOUNDATION.

The Scott/Teays Lions Club supports this foundation through donations and representation on the board of trustees.  The Scott/Teays Lions are working through the LIONS CLUBS INTERNATIONAL FOUNDATION.

And their program called SIGHTFIRST to eliminate PREVENTABLE throughout the world by the end of this century.  The lions help BLINDNESS fund this program.  Each year, the Scott/Teays Lions  (with help from other Putnam county Lions) provide EYE SCREENING services to the Putnam county school system utilizing the WV LIONS MOBILE EYE through 1994.  More than 4000 students had been screened for visual acuity and potential glaucoma.  Of those screened, about 25% required some type of follow up treatment by an eye specialist.  This service has also been available to the general public.
